  7. Introducing “Digital Champions Holiday...
Digital Champoins Holiday Programme supported by TI4Dev, supported By Buea Institiute of Technology

The Digital Champions Holiday Programme programme aims to equip young learners with essential computer and digital literacy skills that will prepare them for academic excellence, responsible digital participation, and future career opportunities.

In today’s rapidly evolving digital world, technology is no longer optional — it is essential. From education and communication to entrepreneurship and career development, digital skills are becoming the foundation for success in nearly every field. Recognizing this growing need, Technology Initiatives for Development (TI4Dev), in partnership with Buea Institute of Technology (BIT), is proud to launch the Digital Futures 2026 Holiday Bootcamp, a practical digital skills training programme designed for secondary school students between the ages of 10 and 20.

Why This Programme Matters

Many young people today use smartphones and social media daily, yet lack foundational digital skills such as proper computer operation, document creation, online safety awareness, and productive use of technology tools. At the same time, cyber threats, misinformation, and unsafe online behavior continue to place young internet users at risk.

The Digital Futures 2026 programme was developed to bridge this gap by helping students move beyond basic entertainment-focused technology use into meaningful digital productivity, creativity, and innovation.

Through hands-on practical sessions, students will gain the confidence to use technology responsibly, creatively, and effectively.

Programme Objectives

The training programme has been carefully designed to achieve the following objectives:

  • Build foundational computer literacy skills among young learners
  • Introduce students to the Windows operating system and file management
  • Improve typing speed, accuracy, and digital productivity
  • Teach professional document creation using Microsoft Word
  • Develop creativity through graphic design using Canva
  • Promote safe and responsible internet use
  • Raise awareness about cybersecurity threats, scams, phishing, and online privacy
  • Introduce students to digital communication and online collaboration tools
  • Encourage innovation, creativity, and confidence in the use of technology

What Students Will Learn

Over the course of four weeks, participants will receive practical training in:

Computer Fundamentals & Windows

Students will learn how computers work, how to manage files and folders, navigate the Windows operating system, and use common computer applications confidently.

Typing & Digital Productivity

The programme will help students develop proper keyboarding skills, improve typing speed and accuracy, and learn important keyboard shortcuts for productivity.

Microsoft Word & Document Creation

Participants will create professional documents such as letters, reports, assignments, CVs, and formatted school projects using Microsoft Word.

Graphic Design with Canva

Students will explore creativity through the design of flyers, posters, social media graphics, certificates, and presentations using Canva.

Internet Safety & Cybersecurity

The training will equip students with the knowledge needed to stay safe online by identifying scams, protecting passwords, avoiding cyberbullying, and understanding responsible social media use.

AI & Smart Learning Tools

Participants will also receive a beginner-friendly introduction to modern AI-powered learning tools and educational digital resources.

A Practical, Hands-On Learning Experience

Unlike traditional theory-heavy computer classes, the Digital Futures 2026 programme emphasizes practical learning. Every session includes demonstrations, guided exercises, mini-projects, competitions, and independent assignments designed to reinforce learning.

Students will work on real-life projects including:

  • Typing exercises and competitions
  • Document creation projects
  • Flyer and poster design
  • Email communication tasks
  • Internet research activities
  • Cybersecurity awareness exercises

At the end of the programme, participants will complete a final practical project and receive certificates recognizing their newly acquired digital skills.

Through this partnership with Buea Institute of Technology (BIT), we are committed to creating learning opportunities that prepare young people not only for today’s digital world, but for the future workforce and digital economy.

The Digital Futures 2026 Holiday Bootcamp is more than just a computer class — it is an investment in the future of our youth.
